oh, for fucks sake. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

(against my better judgement i need to get all political and ranty on you today. i know i suck at it, but i'm just really fucking mad this morning. cope.)

*sips latte*

dear australian federal government,

how are you all? good? that's good.

before i start i'd just like to send a special shout out to my most favouritist brainless cuntmunchers liberal party members, vanstone and abbott. you guys rock. spa party?

and now to get to the point, cause i know you're all really busy with running the country and eating gourmet cheese and stuff.

firstly i would like to congratulate you all on what a superb job you are doing in this, your fourth term in office. what with the ridiculously high rate of immigration department fuck-ups abominable state of indigenous affairs increasingly conservative reproductive health policies continued involvement in a "war" we have no business being a part of um...well...johnny's trip to germany to visit the injured women's cycling team seemed to cheer em up a bit. so that's something.

i hear that now to prove to george bush that anything tony blair can do, john howard can do better in the wake of the london bombings, you are considering giving police shoot to kill powers as a pro-active counter-terrorism measure.

WHAT A FUCKING GREAT IDEA!!!

in fact, why didn't you think of it sooner? well, actually i assume you probably did, but you've just been waiting for the "right" time to introduce it into official policy. and now with all the perfectly legitimate immigrants and asylum seekers terrorists roaming freely around this sunburnt country, there's no time like the present, huh?

but why just stop with the terrorists? surely we could have solved the refugee and indigenous problems long ago if only the police could just shoot the buggers at will. not to mention the asian invasion and newly perceived "sudanese threat".

fuck it, why not give all white, british-in-origin, freedom-loving citizens semi-automatics and authorising them to shoot anyone with funny accents and too much facial hair (of course excluding europeans and queenslanders, that is).

but then again, why stop there? why only shoot to kill. surely we can do better than that. how about a 'karate chop to kill' policy? or even a 'curb stomp to kill' policy? we are a nation of high achievers, after all. just look at shane warne russell crowe our mary. i have no doubt the australian people are up to the task.

that'll show them foreigners terrorists who's boss.

i'll await my fully loaded handgun in the mail. please send it to my work post office box, its more likely to reach me that way.

keep up the good work,

la nadine

x

I'm kind of surprised the Brits haven't lifted the ban on Fox hunting, albeit with a different quarry, why that would solve so many pressing issues all at once, and being a stickler for efficiency that I am I'd applud any action that results in multiple goals being acheived at once.

Here we could also implement a similar method, but with our own local touch as only we can: We'd use Utes with Spotties on them, have half a dozen fellas with 22's riding in the back and pay a bounty on the pelts. Finally at the end of the day throw a big woppin B&S ball and tell everyone else how fantastic the hunt was.

if that's not your taste but rather taking a softly softly approach is, then we can just mail everyone that no longer "fits in" with a notice to evict the country in 30 days, after which your proposed "open season" begins. Fair, they had warning, get out or be got out....

It's fucking disgusting. An innocent man was killed on Friday because he ran away from lots of big men with guns.

I pass armed police everyday on my way to work. Did it make me feel safer? Hell NO! After last Friday I feel positively uneasy in my brown skin.

I didn't think I could hate Tony Blair more than I do, but hey- look at that, I reached new levels of disgust, revulsion and anger.

There are no words to describe how fucking pissed off I am.

At the risk of being unpopular (yeah right, like I'm not already the most hated person who comments on this blog) have you ever actually sent a letter off to the government on these things or participated in a protest/rally/action in matters such as Australia's immigration policy?

I'm hoping you have, but often people (and this might not be you) talk the talk on blogs or when speaking to friends, but don't walk the walk and actually let the government politicians know how they feel. Some people say this won't have any affect, but if enough people do it, then government will likely have to take notice. Besides, if you never try, you will never know.

As a start you can make a submission into a Senate Inquiry that has been established to investigate the Immigration Department, in particular the policy and management of immigration detention. It is an excellent opportunity to expose the cruelty of mandatory detention and the inhumanity of how it has been administered. Any individual or organisation can make a submission to the inquiry. A submission can be anything from a simple email to a one page letter, to a longer document, but the closing date is this Friday.

Submissions to the inquiry should outline any concerns that you about immigration detention policies and any experiences you have had visiting or talking to detainees or dealing with the Immigration Department. All submissions form part of the official public record - so help make a difference and write a submission now!

Email your submission to: legcon.sen@aph.gov.au

WTF?!?

i had NO IDEA i could write ACTUAL LETTERS to the government.

i refuse to believe it.

i just thought if i kept writing offensive, sarcastic fake letters on my blog the people of australia would eventually vote me in as their leader and then i could do all the tree-hugging i wanted for evs.

oh, for fucks sake. grrrrrrrrrr.

Yes, as shocking as it is, whinging and whining won't get you far. At times you need to stop watching Big Brother or stop going shoe shopping and write letters to government, make submissions to the senate or participate in a protest. Who knows, you may even find this more intellectually stimulating than watching drivel on TV or shopping....

It's interesting to me that Aleks is claiming the government needs us to TELL them it might be wrong / dangerous / stupid / the start of a Police State to allow people to be shot before they're questioned.

If the government really can't work that out for themselves, we're in bigger trouble than anyone realises.

... Hey! Now look what you made me do - I've posted a completely serious comment! I never post a completely serious comment!

Now I'm mad.

Aghh!

Bevis, so right and yet so wrong.

Yes, the government shouldn't need to be told what they are doing is wrong, but I am not suggesting we tell them so that they realise this.

The reason we should write letters, protest etc. is because every 3 years we have an aprroximation of a democratic election. If enough people let them know how much they oppose their policies, the government may actually change them to ensure that they don't get booted out next time.

Appeal to their self interest.

Sadly people's self interest, such as watching Big Brother so they can blog about the next day and become "popular", often means that people don't take the time to write to the government, protest etc.

Er, we were possibly a trifle harsh just now. However, we would strongly advise that it is eminently possible to be politically active AND to hold strong views on Big Brother contestants, (are you ready?) SIMULTANEOUSLY. Can you imagine?

I love you Fop.

And he's spot on, Aleks. Believe it or not, we all appreciate your point of view and if we want to read it daily, we can head to your blog. Your whole approach to blogging reeks of the Fundamentalist Christian movement.

You hate the idea of anyone not agreeing with you 100%, you shove your beliefs down everyone's throats and you appear to want suck out the joy - at times daft, pointless but ultimately harmless joy - out of every fucking post or story.

It's like the blog comment equivalent of a Jehovah's Witness banging loudly door to door. We've heard the good news. We know where your copy of Watchtower is. We can grab it whenever we feel like a read.

Please, lighten up - I'm sure you're a good bloke but the attention seeking martyrdom has to stop.

(I'm going to have to start ignoring you until you stop being a 'tedious cunt' but the fireworks between us are still there, babycakes. Love always, Kerry x)

Thanks Fop and Jess for the comments. You have the right to say what you want. So do I. Maybe you only wish you had it?

Now if I'm not mistaken, La Nadine's post criticised our lovely government and their policies. What did I suggest? That people should let the government know this instead of watching mind numbing trash? As a result ( as I suspected might happen, but hoped wouldn't) people got pissed off at this suggestion.

Why?

Could it be that you know what I say is on some level true (note the "on some level" though I still expect this comment will result inpeople stabbing voodoo dolls of me with pins)? That you know that instead of bitching about the government, that you actually go out and try to change it's policies and make the world a better place. I know, it is a horrible thought isn't it.

If a blog or blogger is going to make political comments, or puts themself forward as being "progressive" and "left-wing" then why am I not allowed to make my comments on these matters?. If people don't like it, then do what those right-wing bloggers do, which I am starting to think you have a lot more in common with, and restrict who can blog on your site.

As for me being an attention seeking martyr Jess, you are entitled to your view. What I want to see however is people putting their money where there mouth is (not the most appropriate term); people acting on their beliefs. I do this in my job, in my activism and in my politics. If this is being an attention seeking martyr, so be it.

Do you see, though, Aleks, that you can't really say what extent any of us are actually politically active, based merely on checking whether or not we blog about Big Brother?

People find you tedious because you make these assumptions which have blanket application. And you appear to be doing it increasingly obsessively. You are trolling.

And just as you ask whether we have nothing better to do than talk about Big Brother, we might just as well enquire politely whether your time would be better spent helping "Howard's battlers", who blindly read the Herald Sun and nod in agreement to Andrew Bolt twice a week, to see why voting for the Liberal party *isn't* actually in their interests, rather than coming over to chastise people (who probably agree with you on most fronts) about the insufficiency of our activist credentials.

Speaking for myself, Aleks (which is all I'd ever claim to do), it was your smarmy self-love in you-and-your-own-views, and your patronising tone aimed at anyone who felt otherwise that irked me.

You're welcome to your views as well, so have at them. But allow the rest of us to spend our time blogging talking about Big Brother if we want to (which is also our right).

la nadine (and the rest of us who commented) proved with this post that she doesn't solely talk about Big Brother, so why get on her case?

If the government can't avoid making decisions as stupid as 'shoot first, ask questions later', then protests, letters and voting for them (or not) in three years just isn't going to be enough to save us.

This argument is just going to go round and round in circles if we continue. No one's going to concede at this point.

Whatever.

"I'm hoping you have, but often people (and this might not be you) talk the talk on blogs or when speaking to friends, but don't walk the walk and actually let the government politicians know how they feel."

Fop, this is what I said, allowing for the situation where people may actually be politically active. However your blinkered dislike of me has obviously blinded you to this. As for better spending my time trying to convert people, I do this on numerous levels, but at the risk of appearing to Bevis and his ilk as being smarmy and in love with my own views I won't go into specifics. However trying to convince people on blogs who say they hold these views and who do not act on them to act on them I also believe is part of the "conversion" process.

Bevis, if you look at most of my posts, I only refer to me activism when I am criticised for being a "martyr" or being "in love with my own views". Again you blinkered dislike of me had blinded you to this fact.

As for La Nadine's comments on this post not being about Big Brother, in case you missed my point, if you are going to Blog about your dislike if things like immigration policy, why not use your time to put submission into the senate. Wouldn't this be more helpful if you were really interested in changing things as opposed to being popular?

As for your point on the government making stupid decisions, again you have missed my point. If the government thinks their policies may affect them electorally, then this is the most likely way of geeting them to make changes.

The recent largely cosmetic changes to immigration policy by the government due to numerous scandals is a perfect example of this. But if it wasn't for refugee activists publicly criticising the government this wouldn't ahppen. THAT'S why I want people to be active, because it can result in change. If you are active then I congratulate you, if not then you should be becuase not only are you not solving the problem, you are are contributing to it.
