death by pole

i am a mess.

my shins are grazed. my hips are scratched. my legs and arms are covered in bruises. my index fingers are blistered. my knees are riddled (RIDDLED I TELL YOU!) with carpet burn. my right hand is taped up and bandaged. and i am walking with an ever so slight limp.

and yet despite the fact that i currently look like a human punching bag ("he doesn't mean to hurt me. he's just under a lot of stress. he promises he'll never do it again. HE LOVES ME!"), all i can do is count down the days until my next pole dancing class so i can bang my poor, mangled body up even more.

i. am. obsessed.

Wow - was that your first class?

Or have those injuries been building up over a number of classes?

You make it sound like so much fun...

i've been doing it for about two months now.

and, crazy bitch that i am, i have now upped the ante to TWO classes a week.

it may be the death of me.

it may, however, be the rebirth instead.

That's how I feel about boxing. It started all casual, seeing eachother once a week and then slowly the obsession grew and grew until we've moved in together and see each other every day. This is actually true, I have the equipment in my house now.

And even though for a couple of weeks I couldn't breathe properly. And for several days it hurt to laugh or chew food. I love it.

I just badly mixed my metaphor, didn't I? Mangled, perhaps?

Would you ever turn pro, nadine?

not unless i acquire a smack habit and a gigantor debt to a dodgy loan shark.

so i won't say "never", but probably not, no.

i do love boxing, too. i just suck at it.

oh, and pole dancing and i have may just be moving in together as well. as soon as i find more permanent living arrangements. and a good enough excuse for having a giant pole in my living room.

Two main rules of ‘Pole Dancing Club’ are: you do not talk about Pole Dancing Club, and, you do not talk about Pole Dancing Club. :)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

That is totally awesome. Imagine inviting people round ... that could be quite intimidating for a young man. I like it.

More sophisticated than the welcome at my place ... punching bag, speed ball, drum kit, amps, amps, amps, guitars keyboards.

Regarding going pro: I was wondering if there is a performance aspect to your dancing? I know that I'm aiming for an actual boxing match in about 6 months.

An idea for a club: Pole Dancing Karaoke. Anyone can get up and dance. Have to be careful about the crowd. But could be fun

there are opportunities to perform at my school, and/or to go on to being professional.

i am however not at all interested in performing. i am doing it purely for the fitness and the fun.

i would consider teaching in future as an extra money maker though.

pole dancing karaoke!

i like it.

although imagine the inujuries that would ensue from drunken revellers attempting the "flaps of fire"* move.

*yes, this is actually the name of a move. i kid you not.

I know someone who moved into a rental place which came complete with pole in the living room.

Gives new meaning to the "all mod cons" angle...

Gas cooktop, dishwasher, pole, reverse-cycle aircon.

It could be the next big thing in the rental market!

Question for you... I've been considering sending my Mum off to a couple of pole dancing classes as a belated Mothers Day present. Would that be weird? I'm going for that kinda kooky unexpected gift thing, but I'm worried it might just be sick and wrong.

surlyboy: has your mother ever expressed interest in the art of the pole? if so, go for it. if not...what the fuck, go for it anyway.

and let me know how she reacts.

tobytoby: you heard me.

Thank-you for not mentioning my Mum 'and flaps of fire' in the same sentence.

Without completing the stalking and uncovering your pole dancing location as well as your yoga locale, is it with Sam @ Polestars? I only ask as we are considering going into it with her & bringing it up this way, and wondering about your thoughts of the business as a 'punter'?

and i think it is BRILLIANT!

i was actually not intending on doint it with polestars, but with bobbi's instead, but i am very happy with the way things worked out.

doing uni work and thus constantly checking my email for things to distract me such as blog comments to reply to.

good luck finding a place. it is certainly worth it. the women of the far north coast (and their toned arms and thighs) will thank you.

and let me know how it all goes.

I went to Bobbi's on Saturday afternoon as part of a hen's weekend.

I'm still sore. And bruised. And going back next week for more.
